Tela is a collaborative partnership between two designers, Italian born Chiara Bongiorno and Gabrielle Sarah Drew, originally from Australia. United by a strength of design skills and common passion, Tela shares with clients the dynamic integration of their complementary skills and a versatile approach to the creative process. Both began their careers at the prestigious Istituto Marangoni in Milan, meeting later after various years of experience in the fashion industry.

Chiara worked as a fashion and accessories designer for Fiorucci from 1997 to 2001, beginning as assistant designer for the collection “Fiorucci Safety Jeans”, she than went on to be head designer of the capsule collection for all their flagship stores. After a period of work in London, she returned to Milan as a senior designer for Etro, 2002 to 2007, working alongside Veronica Etro, where she matured an extensive experience in prêt à porter: light fabric construction, evening and outerwear. In the following years Chiara applied her skills and expertise to numerous projects as freelance designer and creative director. It is during this period that she returned to Elio Fiorucci’s office as art director for Love Therapy womens and childrens wear.

Gabrielle, following her studies worked for two years in the denim industry and product design offices of Lucchetto SpA. In 2006 she joined the creative team of Krizia, working with Mariuccia Mandelli for the main and knitwear collection. In 2007, Gabrielle headed the design team in charge of the creation of the licensed collections for Krizia, including: Krizia Jeans, Evex (Sanki) and Krizia Per Te. In 2009 she met Chiara during a collaboration with Elio Fiorucci, together they directed the design and graphic team for the development of the collection in license to the major Italian retailer Gruppo Coin.

A complex interweaving of their skills and expertise lead to the creation of Tela. An enthusiastic and competent team that over the past years shares passion and talent for design, able to interpret and predict trends, whilst translating business requirements and combining it with detailed product and design development.

In the end of 2014 Tela design studio will celebrate 5 successful years of international design and trend consultancy. Hard work, extensive research and outstanding service have been the key objectives in the growth of the studio.
